Arlene R. Kohler was born on Oct. 3, 1927 and passed away on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, in North Myrtle Beach. She was born in Berks County, Pa. Arlene was a daughter of Clarence T. Trupe and Roberta (Eberly) Trupe and the widow of Joseph Kohler Sr.She retired from Bass Pro Shops in Myrtle Beach. Surviving are two brothers, two sons, one step-daughter, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and too many people who called her mom or grandmom to count. Council approves special event permits

During the Feb. 4 North Myrtle Beach City Council meeting, over which Mayor Pro Tempore Terry White presided while Mayor Marilyn Hatley was in Columbia on city business, six city employees were presented with Employee Longevity Awards. The awards are given in five-year increments to employees who provide excellent customer service. Funding is secure for new stoplight

NMB basketball teams drop two games to Myrtle Beach

North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs and Chiefs had a tough night of rivalry basketball last Friday at the NMB gym. The girls lost a heartbreaker 36-35, while the Chiefs were outscored 69-37. In the girls game the Lady Seahawks scored the game’s first six points and the Lady Chiefs didn’t get untracked due to missed shots and turnovers until Kaydee Runion hit a three-pointer from the left side to make it 6-3 with three minutes left in the period. Chiefs wrestling team ends season with big win

The North Myrtle Beach High School Chiefs wrestling team ended their regular season last Wednesday with a 67-6 victory over Myrtle Beach at the Chiefs gym. It was senior night as senior players and their families were honored before the match. When things got going, the Chiefs showed why they are region champions by winning all but one individual pairing. Jerry Waide Tanner, 68, of North Myrtle Beach died on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on Sept. 19, 1950, in Gassaway, W.Va., he was the son of Russell Waide and Juanita Raider Tanner. Jerry enjoyed playing the banjo, mandolin and guitar. He was a member of Monks Choir, a Christian band, for 10 years. Jerry and his wife, Janet, who he married 20 years ago, enjoyed boating and fishing, especially with their grandsons.
