Students prepare for technology fair

Twenty-two students at Loris Middle School participated in the school’s Technology Fair held on Thursday, March 15, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. The students select a category they want to create from a list provided by Amber LaSalle, the school’s media specialist. The projects at the fair included robotics, digital photography, animation, mobile app creation and video editing. They began working on their presentation beginning in November 2018 with the deadline of March 15, 2019. Zoning commission approves properties for annexation to city

The Zoning Commission Committee met on Monday, March 18, at 5:30 p.m. in the Loris Chamber of Commerce conference room. Present at the meeting were committee members Linda Morrison, Ruth Ann Jones and Tommy Brogdon, the city code enforcement director Brandon Harrelson, city attorney Kenneth Moss and resident Wendy Barusch. Committee members not present were Brett Powell and Joseph Flesch. Moss said, “It looks like we have a forum, it is time to begin and we can proceed when ready.” The meeting was called to order with Brogdon offering the invocation. Tebow visited Loris

Tim Tebow and American Residential Services (ARS) came to Loris this past Wednesday to help a family in need. The two worked together to donate a HVAC system to a Loris family who needed a working system in their home. Tebow posed for pictures with many people who stopped by the event. He can be seen with Angela Ermi, who lives with her parents in Loris and got a new HVAC system for her home from the ARS Rescue Rooter’s ARS Cares program.

Planning Commission meeting is rescheduled

The city of Loris Planning Commission met on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 5:30 p.m. at the Loris Chamber of Commerce conference room. In attendance were Brandon Harrelson, city planning commission chair, city attorney Kenneth Moss and committee members Tommy Brogdon and Ruth Ann Jones. Also present were resident Wendy Baruch and Todd Harrelson, mayor pro tem. Three members appointed by council must be present to continue with a meeting. City Council hears reports

The Loris City Council meeting was held on Monday, March 11, at 6 p.m. at McLeod Loris Center for Health and Fitness with Todd Harrelson, mayor pro-tem, presiding over the meeting. This is the first council meeting held without Mayor Henry L. Nichols in which Harrelson requested a moment of silence in his memory. Terrence Hardee gave the invocation and all stood for the pledge of allegiance. Sea Haven Says Thank You

Sea Haven extends a heart-felt thank you to Publix Super Market Charities for a generous grant of $10,000.  Funding will support the food programs of Sea Haven by meeting the immediate needs of each youth in the Sea Haven Street Outreach Program and the Sea Haven Shelter Home.  Emergency food pantries and hot meals and snacks are located in the programs and food boxes in the Sea Haven Transitional Living Program support youth with moving into safe housing while transitioning to independent living.  Sea Haven is proud to partner with Publix Charities in supporting the mission of the organization to …
