David James Porter, 60, of Loris passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at McLeod Loris Hospital following an illness. Mr. Porter was born on Sept. 20, 1958, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to the late Murrey Lee Porter and the late Peggy Lou Turner Porter Garn.
Mr. Porter was a retired brick mason and an active member of Mt Zion Baptist Church. He started Porter Pool Co. in Myrtle Beach and was a firefighter for several years. He was very active in the church including the church maintenance committee. He helped with the “Tracs” ministry and was the church custodian.
He will be missed by the many loving friends at the church and will be remembered as a true northern gentleman.
Survivors include his wife, Rose “Susie” Porter of the home; son, Adam Porter; daughter, Bethany Compton and husband, Andrew; three brothers, Bobby Porter and wife Jeani, Edward Garn and Charles Porter; and two sisters, Gerri Askew and husband Tony and Karla Binkley and husband Jerry, all of Ohio.
Visitation was held on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 1 p.m. until the time of service at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Pastor David Watts officiating. Committal services followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
