Loris City Police respond quickly to bank robbery

The Loris Police Department was dispatched to the BB&T Bank branch on Broad Street in the city on Thursday, Feb. 14, at approximately 1:30 p.m.
The report states a light skinned black woman entered the bank telling the employees that she had a gun and demanded money. The employees never saw a weapon, but followed the instructions as the suspect took an undetermined amount of money and fled the bank on foot.

When the Loris Police officers, including Chief Gary Buley, arrived within minutes of the robbery, they were able to swiftly shut down a perimeter. The roadways surrounding the bank were shut down except for Broad Street as police searched for the suspect. Eyewitness accounts stated that the suspect was last seen heading toward the old Loris High School.

The Horry County Police were called to assist the Loris Police Department to help find the suspect. The HCPD K-9 units were unable to locate the suspect as they lost the scent of the woman police believed to have robbed the bank.
The LPD and HCPD released a grainy photo of the woman appearing to be a light-skinned black woman wearing a black hoodie and light color jeans and are asking for the public’s help in locating this person.

Anyone with information of the person appearing in the surveillance image at the bank is asked to contact the Loris Police Department at 843-756-4000 and choose option number two to speak with an officer.
