Sammy P. Livingston, 76, of Little River passed away on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2019.
“Soldier, rest! Thy warfare o’er, Sleep the sleep that knows no breaking; Dream of battled fields no more, Days of danger, Nights of waking.”
Sam was born in Wampee on Nov. 2, 1942, to Wilbur and Lutie Livingston. He attended Wampee High School. He was drafted in the Army in 1966 and served and fought in Vietnam. He returned home after his four-year duty with a Purple Heart.
Sam loved his country, took pride in flying his American flag and was proud to be a veteran. Sam loved to go fishing, traveling and shagging at Ocean Drive. He could do most everything he loved until he completely lost his hearing caused by an accident in Vietnam. Then cancer took over the rest of his body all caused from agent orange. However, Sam did not let this get him down. He is an American Solider and nothing could take that away.
Over the past few years Sam found a new passion and pride. The love of his grandchildren. They called him Pop-Pop and they loved to visit him often. They made many lasting memories taking road trips to Walmart, grocery stores and the VA Hospital in Charleston. Only those sweet precious girls could bring love and laughter back into his life until the end. He will be deeply missed by Sawyer, Saylor, MacKenzie and Wyatt. Sam was loved dearly by his devoted brothers, sisters and a host of nieces and nephews.
Sam is survived by two daughters, MacKenzie Livingston (Wyatt Lester) and Shannon Livingston Powell (Ben); four precious grandchildren, Addison, Brady, Sawyer and Saylor; two sisters, Billie Livingston Todd and Peggy Livingston Willard (Starlin); five brothers, Larry Livingston, James Livingston (Debbie), Bobby Livingston (Jan), Elton Livingston and Terry Livingston (Suzanne); and many special nieces and nephews.
Sam was predeceased by his parents, Wilbur Mayo Livingston and Lutie Patrick Livingston, the mother of his children, Cheryl Shipman Livingston, five brothers, Ronald and Donald Livingston, Tracy Livingston, Wayne Livingston (Margie) and Barry Livingston (Pam).
