Residents filled City Hall Monday night in support of the city of North Myrtle Beach’s effort to purchase and preserve Ingram Dunes.
As Morgan Livingston, a third-generation native of North Myrtle Beach, expressed the need for purchase and preservation of the historic 9.4-acre site, he asked all those in attendance who endorse saving Ingram Dunes to stand. Almost the entire room rose in support, with the exception of the city staff. It was a moving tribute to the continued encouragement from the community for the effort to save Ingram Dunes.
Livingston also spoke to the fact that this support would not go away. He addressed the need for even more areas within the city to be preserved and used as green space for the residents and visitors of North Myrtle Beach.
Prior to the City Council meeting the North Myrtle Beach Historic Preservation Society (NMBHPS) hosted a Potluck Picnic at the Farmers Market. Many neighbors, friends, families and like-minded strangers shared food and fellowship before attending the City Council meeting. One neighbor was overheard speaking about how this was helping to strengthen our community and connect neighbors. One lifelong resident stated that it felt like the old days.
NMBHPS is currently working on their next large fundraiser in an effort to continue to raise money to save Ingram Dunes. The event, “A Night Under the Stars,” will be held at the North Myrtle Beach Area Historical Museum on Saturday, April 27 from 7-10 p.m.
