The Loris recreation department is holding Baseball Opening Day on Thursday, April 4. The opening ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. and games begin at 6 p.m.
On Monday, April 1, Coastal Carolina University mascot Chauncey visited the park during practice for the children to have their pictures made with this special guest.
Tom Cocke, director of the recreation center, said, “We have had to change the opening day a couple of times due to rain, we had planned to have the Myrtle Beach Pelicans mascot Splash visit.” Sadly, Splash is not available for Thursday’s game day, but he and Chauncey will be back in the near future to visit the park.
Joey Letts with the recreation department said they are shooting for 50 people to attend the Myrtle Beach Pelicans vs. Fayetteville Woodpeckers on Friday, April 12, at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase online for $10. Cocke said, “The more people we have attend the game the more recognition our group will receive during the game.”
To purchase tickets for the game the website is https://www.milb.com/myrtle-beach/schedule/2019-04. This is Bark in the Park night at the stadium and 15 minutes before game time players are available for autographs. Grab your baseball cap and bring your glove to the game and join in the fun with other Loris residents.
Cocke and city employees have worked to make improvements to the ball fields with less down time after a major rainstorm. He is hoping that people will come to watch the games and appreciates all the support of the community.
