Children make Father’s Day buttons

The Loris Library drew a crowd of children on Thursday, June 13, at 12 noon to make buttons for their dads for Father’s Day.  Tracy Collins provided patterns or blank circles of paper for the children to use vibrant pencils to make a colorful button.

Each child cut out the circle to fit the button, colored it and then Collins helped them to place the circle in the button maker.  There were happy faces and smiles during the event.  Dominique Lay said, “I love my daddy” as he presented his pin that said “Happy Father’s Day”

Children from age three to 12 joined in the fun making a pin.  Jaelyn Bellamy, age 7, colored his pin with “#1 Dad” and said, “My dad will be so excited.” His cousin, Jaden Ford, age 5, said, “Father’s Day is coming up.”; he said he is also going to check out some books to read because he will be going into kindergarten next year.

This was a special day for dads who received a special button from their children; homemade buttons are best because they come from the heart.

Collins said that on each Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Waccamaw EOC brings in lunch for the children.  On Tuesday, June 25, at 1:30 p.m. the library will host Marvel Day-Robotics. Wednesday, June 26, is Storytime at 1:30 p.m. Take Me to Your Leader, and adults at 3 p.m. learn to make bath bombs.  Thursday, June 27, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. NASA Solar System Shuffle, Lego Lab at 1:30, crafters group at 1 p.m. and on Friday, June 28, is summer movie day at 1:30 p.m.

Collins says that they are going “all tech” with robotics, Legos, K’nects building tools and manipulations to build skills to follow instructions, patterns and much more.

Tracy Collins helps the children make Father’s Day buttons for their dads during a workshop at the Loris Library.
