149 LHS Graduates Receive Diplomas

The Loris High School class of 2019 walked into the gymnasium at 6 p.m. to “Pomp & Circumstance” on Thursday, June 6.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Tanner Kennedy. Callie Osment sang the National Anthem and the invocation was given by Ashlyn Buffkin.  Ellison Gore welcomed the graduating class of 2019, the parents and families, the teachers and staff witnessing the seniors of Loris High School receiving their diplomas.

William Palomares, the class laureate, spoke of memories of the journey to this moment will forever be within the hearts of the graduating class, which was a stepping stone to the future. The salutatorian, Nathan Lowe, was presented the medal of Salutatorian by Principal Richard Crumley as he took the stage.  Valedictorian Caleb Jordan also received a medal prior to speaking to the class.  He spoke of the road they have traveled to get to this point and whether going to college or taking a year to ponder the future. “We’ve made it.” 

The 149 students walked across the stage to receive their diplomas from Principal Crumley, pausing to have a picture taken before returning to their seats.

The Alma mater was presented by the senior graduates who were in the chorus.

Summa cum laude students who are graduating with a GPA of 4.750 or higher are Ashlyn Buffkin, Tamara Butler, Haven Flesh, Brantlee Gerald, Casey Hamilton, Caleb Jordan, Nathan Lowe, Dylan McDowell and Samantha Mishoe.

Magna cum ladue, students with a GPA of 4.250 or higher, but less than 4.750 are Anna Anderson, Julia Badillo, Reece Bonnett, Annabelle Caines, Mariah Davis, Tyneshia Fayall, Ellison Gore, Regan Grainger, Ty’Anna Green, Kali Griffin, Matthew Josephs, Tanner Kennedy, Callie Osment, William Palomares, Sean Pridgeon, Briania Reaves, Daysie Weihert, Brooke Wharton and Rebecca Whisnant.

Cum laude, students with a GPA of 3.750 or higher but less than 4.250 are Charles Cooke, Charlotte Eaddy, Ryan Eckersfey, Jaleah Floyd, Makayla Gerald, Tatyanna Grate, MacClaley Hardee, Madisonn Hege, Jahrique Isaiah, Allyson Long, Rilee McCauley, Kelly Melendez, Aldona Mitchell, Jyheem Myers, Tucker Reaves, Jameson Ruppe, Kassidy Russ, Gage Smith, Kyla Staden, Angielette Taste, Cierra Williams and Quanterria Vick.

As the graduates stood, Principal Crumley announced to the class of 2019, “Turn your tassels.”  With that the ceremony ended with some of the graduates tossing their caps into the air, turning to one another for hugs with tears, but thankful they accomplished what they began with in kindergarten, the goal to graduate from high school and now the dreams of college are a reality.

Student body officers are, president, Rebecca Whisnant; vice president, Haven Flesch; secretary, Tamara Butler; and treasurer Charlotte Eaddy.  The senior class officers are president, Ellison Gore; vice president, Ashlyn Buffkin; secretary, Tony Jordan; and treasurer, Dabria Gause.

Chief Marshalls were Heather Ghent and Bakari Kalani Kirton.  Marshalls were Jacob Black, Madison Cox, Delaney Dunn, Emma Ann Lay, Alyssa Ruppe, Andre` Shaw, Dylan Tyler and Mason Tyler.

School board members who attended the ceremony were chairman, Ken Richardson; John Poston, vice chairperson; Holly Heniford, Sherrie Todd, Ray Winters, David Cox, Janice Morreale, Helen Smith, Janet Graham, Chris Hardwick, Neil James and Shanda Allen.

Loris High School honors  these graduates with the ceremony that takes planning for it to go smoothly.  Special thanks go out to principal Richard Crumley, Barry Brooks, Nate Bellamy, Jodi Nealey Cox, Jan Vescovi and Holly Holland, along with countless others making it a special night to remember for the students, friends and parents.
