Yaupon members celebrate garden weeks

By Mary Templeton

National Garden Club Week was enjoyed by members of The Yaupon Garden Club as they participated in daily scheduled activities to promote beautification and an appreciation of nature. Donna Strattaman and Graceann Phillips explain how to cut and place flowers in the wet oasis forms

They sponsored a bee-keeping program free to the public by Dennis Mineo, proprietor of Bees at the beach, on Monday at the North Myrtle Beach Library.

On Tuesday they visited Deb Madey’s lovely garden, the raised flower bed they monitor at Summit Place, The Staffordshire Inn’s garden, and concluded the morning at the Pollination Station at McLean Park where they enjoyed a picnic.

Wednesday found the ladies back at the North Myrtle Beach Library where Donna Strattman and Graceann Phillips demonstrated the techniques for making floral cakes to members and the public.

Members met at Current Transitions on Thursday where they assisted adults in making their very own floral cupcakes. The Yaupon Garden Club celebration of National Garden Club Week culminated with a delightful Plantation River Tour on Friday during which members were able to enjoy the natural beauty surrounding seven plantations!

Current Transitions instructor, Mary Hagar and the Yaupon Garden Club ladies join the students as they  proudly display their floral cupcakes.
