Dixie Youth All-Star teams continue play this week

Three North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department all-star teams continued play this week in the Dixie Youth Baseball Championship tournaments being held around the state.

The 10 and under all-stars, who were seeded 11th in the 12-team event, started play last weekend with a 7-4 win over the sixth seeded team from Orangeburg. North Myrtle Beach then took on the 5th seeded Hartsville team, and lost by a 2-0 score.

North Myrtle Beach then went to the loser’s bracket and they were eliminated by the tournament’s 3rd seeded team, Clinton, this time by an 8-0 score.

Coach Edward Prince was still proud of his team. “I am super proud of our team’s effort. This group has played together for a while now. We had a 5-0 record in the district tournament and we saw a lot of potential from those first games and our play in the first championship game,” Prince said

Prince also said the state tournament was much tougher competition. “I feel like we did well in this tournament despite the tougher teams we faced. The team handled the tournament well. We certainly didn’t hit as well as we did in the first game and we saw different pitching than before. I know we are looking forward to doing this again. Our kids have never made it to this level before but I think they handled everything beautifully. I think we got better each time we played. They always held their heads up and I feel like they are champions no matter how you look at it,” Prince said.

Prince also said he appreciated the support he received from the families and the community throughout.

The 11-12 all-star team started their tournament in Bluffton over the weekend and got off to a great start. They beat Greenwood 6-1 in their first game and remained in the winner’s bracket in the double elimination tournament by shutting out Hartsville 12-0 in their second game. North Myrtle beach had a bye on Monday but returned to action Tuesday evening. If they continue their winning ways, the NMB all-stars could be in the championship game Thursday, July 18.

The last North Myrtle Beach all-star team to see action will be the 13-14 year-old Dixie Boys. They begin play this Saturday at 6 p.m. against Bluffton in Bluffton.

While competing at state the players visited the Clemson baseball stadium. The boys met head Coach Monte Lee and learned all about what it means to be a Tiger. They toured the locker rooms, players lounge and stadium. It was an awesome experience for the boys.
