The Loris City Council met at the American Legion Hall on Thursday, July 25, at 6 p.m. for the second reading of the ordinance
Mayor Todd Harrelson opened the meeting with a tapping of the gavel and giving the invocation and leading the pledge of allegiance.
Council members in attendance were Joan Gause, Lewis Hardee, Terrence Hardee, Mike Suggs; Jan Vescovi was absent from the meeting. Department heads attending the meeting were Brandon Harrelson, Police Chief Gary Buley, Lt. Larry Williams, Tom Cocke, Kenneth Moss and Kenya Wright.
Deborah Cannon was present at the meeting for cross-training. The city is implementing cross-training of the employees as a safety measure to assure that meetings will be covered if the city clerk/treasurer is unable to attend a meeting.
Harrelson said, “We’ll skip right to the business today, the second reading of ordinance number 05-19.” Wright read the ordinance aloud for the record. She read, “Ordinance number 05-19, an ordinance to adopt a budget for city of Loris, South Carolina, for the fiscal year 2019-20, ending June 30, 2020.” Harrelson asked for a motion to approve the ordinance, whereupon a vote was received four to one, passing for the fiscal year 2019-20.
Harrelson asked for public comment and press. There were no comments. He asked for a motion to go into executive session to discuss personnel matters.
Upon return from executive session the meeting again was back in session. “No action taken.” said Harrelson. The meeting was adjourned.
The next regular city council meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 5, at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. Council meetings are public and residents are welcome to attend.
