Loris Lions are preparing for the fall sports

Loris High School Football Head Coach Jamie Snyder along with the other coaches, Brandon Day, Lang Kenlaw, Josh Stevenson, Andre White, Julius Graham, Casey Davis, Michael Buffkin and A. Grady, have worked throughout the summer with the Loris High School varsity and junior varsity teams to prepare for the fall football season.  In preparing for the season the South Carolina National Guard visited to work out with the team. 

This year’s quarterbacks for the Loris Lions are Gage Conner and Joseph Flesch, both are seniors this year; Conner is the lead quarterback for the varsity team this year.  Connor said,”This week we do not practice because it is considered a dead week.  We will begin practice again next week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday early morning to get our drills in and practice for the games.”

Two scrimmage games are scheduled in August. The first game will be held at Heniford Field with the Lions vs. Myrtle Beach Seahawks. The game begins at 6:30 p.m.  The second scrimmage game is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 12, at Socastee at 6:30 p.m., with the Loris Lions vs. Socastee Braves.  General admission to both of these games is free.

The first official game of the season will be held at St. James High School on Friday, Aug. 23, at 6:30 p.m. with the Loris Lions vs. the St. James Sharks.

Cheerleading Camp for Loris Middle School was held last week with the Coastal Carolina University cheerleaders.  Cheerleading Coach Tiffany Helms and CCU cheerleading coach David Almeida set up a closed session for the CCU cheerleaders to teach the middle school cheerleaders techniques in building pyramids, jumping and the one cheerleader stand with two cheerleaders holding them up high in the air. 

Band Camp led by Stephen Whisnant, best known as Mr. Whiz, who is in his 26th year of teaching students, along with Mrs. Whiz and assistant band teacher Amory Fout, who is a new hire, worked with the band members on Wednesday, July 24, from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and will continue until the beginning of school. 

The percussion band members have been practicing inside the school auditorium to prepare the beat for the other members to follow.

Middle school students as well as the high school band students make up the band that travels with the football team to encourage the team and excite the crowd with their tunes.  Their half-time shows will be exciting to see.

The Band Boosters will meet on Aug. 13 at 7 p.m.  The band is in need of plenty of bottled water and appreciates any donations. 

Summer has whizzed through quickly. It is time for the football season to begin.

The Blue Pride Booster Club will hold its annual membership drive meeting on Thursday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Community room at Loris High School.
