Norma Stevens Westbury

Norma Stevens Westbury, 75, of Myrtle Beach passed away on Monday, Aug. 5, 2019, at MUSC.

Born on April 24, 1944, in Conway, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Lessie Stevens. Mrs. Westbury was a member of Ocean View Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach, where she worked as a preschool teacher in the Teaching Learning Center for 11 years.  She and her husband were actively involved in all aspects of Coastal Academy, where their children attended, and they never missed a game or function. Mrs. Westbury devoted her life to her children and grandson. She loved to cook country cooking and was always there to provide meals for family and friends and was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. She loved to garden and share her vegetables with those she loved.

Along with her parents, Mrs. Westbury was predeceased by her husband, James “Jay” Kisler Westbury Sr., her brother, Earl “Sleepy” Stevens, her sister, Clara Mae Stevens, brothers-in-law, Larry Westbury, Wendell Westbury and Moses Smith, and her sister-in-law, Virginia Smith.

Surviving are one daughter, Stephanie Westbury Bell; one son, James “Jamie” K. Westbury Jr.; one grandchild, Nicholas Bell; a sister-in-law, who is more like a sister, Jackie Stevens; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Westbury and Miriam Westbury; a special cousin, Laverne Gause; a special nephew, Keith Riley; her cat, Jerry; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, at Ocean View Baptist Church with the Rev. Kirk Lawton officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway.

The family received friends on Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Carolina Forest Chapel.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and caregivers that devoted their time to Mrs. Westbury during her sickness.
