Douglas C. McKinney, 66, of Little River passed away at Regency Hospital of Florence on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019. Born on May 13, 1953, he was the son of the late Clyde and Viola Ruth Cook McKinney.
Mr. McKinney is survived by his wife, Penny, of 45 years whom he married on Dec. 22, 1973. Also surviving are his son, Jordan; daughters, Jennifer Green, Wendy Cheers (Christopher) and Summer Williams (Gene); grandchildren, Derric, Preston, Chayton and Caden; step-grandchildren, Dalana, Dillon and Dalton; two step-great-grandchildren; close cousins he grew up with, Mike, Danny and Noel of Turkey Creek Hollow; and many extended family and friends.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Harold McKinney.
First and foremost, Doug had a love for the Lord, his wife and going to Disney (his happy place). His hobbies included hunting and fishing, cheering on the West Virginia Mountaineers at home games, working in his backyard, trains, building things and caring for animals. Previously, he was the safety director in the coal mines for almost 20 years and worked over 20 years in the retail grocery business, including Food Lion.
The family received friends on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Living Water Baptist Church in Longs. A memorial service immediately followed.
