The North Myrtle Beach High School Lady Chiefs varsity tennis team returned home and won a 4-3 match against visiting Darlington.
The Chiefs won three singles matches and split two doubles matches for the win. Coach Jason Tester was especially happy and proud of his number one singles player Rachel Grove. “She played Ella Watford and played through a tough shoulder injury to win the match 6-2, 6-4. She has been dealing with this injury all season and we have been working hard with our trainers and physical therapy to get her back to 100%. She is one of the toughest girls I know and is determined to get back to full strength,” Tester said.
“She is only a sophomore and has two more years to go, so we are taking it easy and slow to protect her for the future. She is one of the best captains I’ve ever had and is there 100% for her teammates even when she’s not playing. She not only an amazing tennis player, but also attends scholar’s school. She’s been blessed with smarts and talent, works hard every day in school, in life and tennis. I couldn’t be more proud of her,” Tester said.
Number two singles player Sydney Pettiteau lost 2-6, 1-6, number three player Megan Moritsch won 6-2, 6-3. Lady Chiefs number four singles player Sklar Dale won 6-1, 6-0 and number 5 Ana Phillips lost in a tie breaker 10-12.
In doubles play, number 2 team of Jocelyn Nguyen and Gracelyn Tester won 6-3,6-4, while the number 1 doubles team of Sydney and MaKenna Stone lost 2-6, 0-6.
The Lady Chiefs are home this week for a match against Hartsville on Tuesday and Myrtle Beach coming in next Tuesday October 8.
