The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs varsity football program fell on the road this past Friday night to region foe Hartsville by a final score of 24-8.
The Chiefs saw senior quarterback Ramsey Lewis return to his starting role after an early season injury, but weren’t able to capitalize on the opportunity, picking up just 133 total yards on offense.
North Myrtle Beach opened the game with a first down on their second play of the game, but failed to move the chains any further through their next four drives.
Down 14-0 near the end of the first half, the Chiefs had their first chance to put points on the board with a field goal attempt from Hartsville’s 22 yard line. The kick by junior kicker Zane Smith connected with the left upright and fell outside of the goalposts.
Playing at Kellytown Stadium in Hartsville, the Chiefs (5-3, 1-3) allowed 327 yards of offense by the No. 9 ranked Red Foxes (6-3, 3-1).
North Myrtle Beach’s only score of the game came from a seven yard pass completion from sophomore quarterback Cameron Freeman to Trace Hall with two minutes remaining in the game.
Hall, who was named the Bubba Collins Insurance Performer of the Game also racked up four solo tackles, with four assists for a total of six tackles to lead the Chiefs on defense.
Offensively, Zyon Belle led the Chiefs with 10 carries for 45 yards while Ramsey Lewis carried the ball 12 times for 31 yards.
Lewis went 4-12 passing for 33 yards and one interception, while Freeman went 4-8 for 40 yards, no interceptions and one touchdown.
The Chiefs return home this Friday night for senior night and will face the No. 1 ranked, undefeated Myrtle Beach Seahawks. The senior night event will kick off at 7:05 p.m. inside the Hank Hester Sports Complex at North Myrtle Beach High School.
