Teacher enjoys helping her kids learn to read

By Meg Williams: A long time resident of North Myrtle Beach, Amanda Todd is very familiar with yelling “Go Chiefs.” Mrs. Todd is in her ninth year of teaching and currentky teaches first grade at Waterway Elementary. Amanda earned her bachelors degree in Early Education and her masters in Education in Literacy at Coastal Carolina University.

Amanda was first inspired to teach by a former North Myrtle Beach school teacher, Vicki Lewis.  After Mrs. Lewis a long list of some of North Myrtle Beach’s best followed including Amanda McDuffie, Jill Chandler, Kelly Gurney, Carol Adams and Amanda Earnhardt.

The most rewarding aspect of teaching according to Amanda is “helping my kids learn how to read and seeing the light bulb go off when they learn.” She always thinks a close second important part is the relationships that are formed and last for future years.

Amanda credits her parents, Mike and Brenda Findlay, as being the most influential people in her life. Their “constant support and encouragement to always believe in herself and teaching her the importance of dedication and work ethic” help make her a better person and teacher every day.

Mrs. Todd’s favorite quote is “Anyone can find the dirt on someone. Be the one that finds the gold.” Proverbs 11:27.

Amanda’s hobbies include photography, crafts and Home Good runs to find Rae Dunn.

When asked about a funny story from school Amanda laughs and says “There is one every day.”

Kids teach us memories. They give us quotes, they teach us…all these things make our days worthwhile and better.
