Bettie Gail Stevens Altman of Loris passed to her heavenly home on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019. Bettie Stevens Altman or “Nonie” as she liked to be called by her grandchildren, had many favorite pastimes. Fishing was her favorite. Shopping in Walmart for long periods of time, especially during end of year sales, was a close second. She enjoyed special holidays where her grandchildren and great-children were involved.
Mrs. Altman was born in Loris, a daughter of the late Ernest Odell and Jackie Fowler Stevens. She was predeceased by her son, Kevin Shelley; three brothers, Shelton, Jimmy and Belton Stevens; and one sister, Patsy S. Cooper.
She is survived by her daughter, Mitzi Musselwhite of Wilmington, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Missy Causey of Conway; three granddaughters, Jamie Bass and husband Brad and Kelly Hillegass and husband Tommy, all of Wilmington, and Summer Gehl and husband Jimmy of Beaufort; four grandchildren, Ethan Bass, Carter Bass, Willow Gehl and Olive Gehl; one sister, Flora S. Norris of Conway; three nieces, Susie Goldfinch, Kris Stevens and Kim Valade; and one nephew, Tommy Norris Jr.
Graveside services were held on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Floyd officiating. The family received friends at the graveside following the service.
Memorials may be made to Dogwood Hill Baptist Church, 1040 Mt. Zion Road, Loris, S.C. 29569.
