Geraldean ‘Gerri’ Mackey

Geraldean M. “Gerri” Mackey of Conway departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Friday, Nov. 29, 2019, at her home. Ms. Mackey was born in Conway on Dec. 22, 1934, a daughter of Frank Hayes Martin and Ruth Inez Hucks Martin. A member of Buck Creek Baptist Church, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles George “Chuck” Mackey, her parents, three brothers, Lloyd Martin, Howard Martin and Lee Hoyt Martin, three sisters, Lounette Lewis, Corine Davis and  Jesse Albertine Queen, and a daughter, Betty Jean Taylor.

Surviving are her two daughters, Donna Mackey Lay of Conway and Judy Marshall and husband George Marshall of Murrells Inlet; two brothers, Billy Martin and wife, Phyllis of Conway and Curley Martin of Charleston; four grandchildren, Daniel Morgan and Greta Morgan of Murrells Inlet, Benjamin William Lay and wife Joy Greenawalt Lay of Nashville, Tenn., Elizabeth “Liz” Lay Holt and husband Lance Holt of Seneca; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial celebration of life service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, at Hardwick Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Larry Allen officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until the time of service and again immediately following the service at Hardwick Funeral Home on Friday. Committal services at the Brookwood Cypress Mausoleum at Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway will be private.
