The McLeod Loris Angels, a women’s healthcare philanthropy group, benefitting McLeod Health Loris, granted $880 raised by members of the association. This funding will go toward departmental improvements and provide additional support for patients and community.
The grants will provide funding for the labor and delivery unit to purchase a mamaRoo infant seat to help calm babies born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). According to the Centers of Disease Control, six out of every 1,000 babies in the U.S. are diagnosed with NAS. The data shows when babies are placed in a mamaRoo infant seat they are more physiologically stable after 30 minutes, showing lower heart and respiratory rates.
Other grants include a new wheel chair for the medical surgical unit and funding for the Center for Health & Fitness to provide swim lessons to area children.
Members of the McLeod Loris Angels donated blankets that will be distributed to patients in the emergency department and labor and delivery.
The purpose of the McLeod Loris Angels is to provide networking and healthcare-related educational opportunities for women who support the McLeod Foundation and to develop women’s knowledge of the impact of philanthropy on healthcare.
