On Saturday, Dec. 7, at 8 a.m. children gathered at the Public Safety Building to meet with Santa and eat a hearty breakfast together. To the surprise of the children another special visitor wanted to help with the breakfast, the Grinch came along with Santa. The breakfast consisted of green pancakes, sausage, green punch and orange juice from the Grinch himself.
Not only was the Grinch in on the after breakfast festivities, Cindy Lou Who (Kenya Wright), Martha May Whovier (Amanda Causey) and a festive townsperson (Samantha Norris) led the activities of decorating cookies and ornaments along with a visit with Santa for a photo opportunity.
Wright said that 120 people total signed up to have breakfast with Santa. After eating the children were led through the stations set up for the children. Close to the end of the event music was played for the children to dance and more opportunities to have a picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Mayor Todd Harrelson stopped by to say hello as did many city employees who brought their families by to visit with Santa.
The City of Loris and The Loris Chamber of Commerce combined efforts to create an atmosphere of fun and games for children in the Loris area. Five youth volunteers assisted with the activities, Callie Wright, Cloey Wright, Desiree Reynolds, Sebastian Robinson and Autumn Hurles. Jennifer Causey, the Loris Bog Off Queens and Norris welcomed the children and their families.
Causey said, “It was wonderful seeing the children with their parents enjoying our first Breakfast with Santa.” She stated with life being so busy and fast paced, it was nice to see everyone take a moment to enjoy the Christmas Season. She said, “Seeing the smiles of the children made all of the work we put into these events worthwhile.”
Wright said the event was a success and that she and Norris will work together to have this event again next Christmas. The charge of $5 per person was reasonable and covered the costs to provide for the activities. She said, “There are other events in the works to include a Valentine’s event with details provided closer to the date.” Keep an eye on the social media and city website for upcoming events. Norris stated there is no plan for a New Year’s Eve event this year, but the chamber is open to the possibilities in the future.
