McLeod Health Loris unveils new dialysis access center

The new McLeod Health Loris Dialysis Access Center (DAC) was unveiled to staff on Thursday, Jan. 2. The new space will accommodate dialysis patients in need of medical repair of their access area where they receive their dialysis treatments.

The Dialysis Access Center at McLeod Health Loris, led by vascular surgeon, Dr. David Bjerken, is the only center in the region specializing in immediate dialysis access repair, creation of new dialysis access, and preservation of existing access.

“This new center is part of McLeod Health Loris’ continued commitment to growth and strengthening our vascular program,” said Scott Montgomery, administrator of McLeod Health Loris. “Dialysis is life-sustaining medical treatment for so many who suffer from kidney disease. We want to partner with area nephrologists and dialysis clinics to ensure these patients receive quality and efficient care when they need it.”

Most dialysis access procedures can be done as outpatient and do not require an overnight stay. This dedicated center will provide everything patients need in a convenient location within the hospital. The new space opened to patients on Monday, Jan. 6.
