The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs varsity baseball team begins region play this week with two games. The Chiefs travelled to Marlboro County on Tuesday for their region opener and then have their first home game scheduled for this Friday at 6:30 p.m. at home against Wilson High School.
The Chiefs had a week of practice last week following three games played at the Shipyard Tournament in Charleston Feb. 28 and 29. The Chiefs opened play against Wando High School. They were tied 5-5 after five innings but Wando pushed across a run in the top of the seventh and the “home team” Chiefs couldn’t score in the bottom of the seventh and dropped their opener 6-5.
The Chiefs first game Saturday was against Ashley Ridge. The Chiefs scored three runs in the second inning and five more in the third to build a big advantage, then held on for an 8-6 win.
Later Saturday the Chiefs met James Island. North Myrtle Beach trailed 10-8 going into the bottom of the seventh in that game but scored twice to tie it at 10-10 and the game ended in a tie.
