Freeman receives an appointment to United States Naval Academy


Lillian Freeman of Little River has been given an appointment to attend the United States Naval Academy in Maryland. She plans to major in Nuclear Engineering and minor in Arabic.

Lillian Freeman, a student at North Myrtle Beach High School, has been given an appointment to attend the United States Naval Academy.

The United States Naval Academy is the United States Navy’s premier four-year college located in Annapolis, Maryland.

The process to apply to the Naval Academy includes an application, essay, fitness test, medical exam and a nomination from a member of either the Senate or House of Representatives. Freeman received nominations from Congressman Tom Rice, Senator Tim Scott and received a special nomination from her NJROTC Unit at North Myrtle Beach High School. She plans to major in Nuclear Engineering and minor in Arabic.

After graduating from the Naval Academy she hopes to commission in the Navy as an Ensign and become a Nuclear Propulsion Officer. She also hopes to be a part of the United States Naval Academy Varsity Offshore Sailing Team. Freeman has been a student at North Myrtle Beach High School for the past four years and has been highly involved in many extracurricular activities there. She currently serves as the Executive Officer in NJROTC, the President of the National Honor Society and National English Honor Society and is the goalie on the Girl’s Lacrosse Team among other activities.

Freeman will report to the Naval Academy for “Induction Day” on June 25, 2020 which starts a 50-day indoctrination training period.

Freeman is honored to be chosen to attend the Naval Academy and would like to thank everyone who helped her along the way.
