Horry County adds absentee voting sites

By Ruben Lowman

Horry County Voters Registration & Elections announced this week that they will be creating new in-person voting sites for individuals who are planning on filling out absentee ballots for the upcoming election. County officials felt the inclusion of offering absentee voting in-person was necessary in order to compensate for an expected surge in demand given the current coronavirus restrictions that have become commonplace over the past several months.

There will be three voting sites set up in strategic locations throughout the county to effectively process what is presumed to be a significant increase in voters filing absentee ballots during this election cycle. The sites will be at the North Strand Recreation Center, the South Strand Recreation Center and the Carolina Forest Library, Oct. 5 to Nov. 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Social distancing restrictions implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19 has raised the possibility that individuals who want to vote may be less inclined to do so out of fears for their health and safety. To prevent this and ensure that all eligible voters are able to have their voice heard this November, county officials added the in-person option for absentee voters.

Officials strongly recommend that anyone filing an in-person absentee ballot should visit www.scvotes.com before arriving to verify that their personal information is correct. Any issues will be directed to the Horry County Registration & Elections office in Conway. If all information is correct, voters will present identification while adhering to safety protocols to protect public health and fill out their absentee ballot.

County officials encourage all voters to maintain patience during this difficult time. If you were mailed an absentee ballot you can use the secure drop box located at the Registration & Elections office in Conway.

Any additional questions or information can be found by visiting scvotes.com or calling the Horry County Voters Registation & Elections office at 843-915-5440.
