William Robert Giambrone

Bobby Giambrone (nè William Robert Giambrone), 72, of Little River went to his heavenly home on Monday, Sept. 21, 2020.

Bobby was born on April 8, 1948, in Greenville.  He was the son of Frank and Francis (Gray) Giambrone and brother of Richard Frank “Butch” Giambrone.  He graduated from Parker High School in Greenville.  Bobby achieved several associate degrees, including one in criminal justice.  He went on to become a Greenville County Sheriff’s deputy.  While in this position, he was one of two to begin a rescue diver program.  He loved diving and was known to go on many diving trips to the Bahamas and other locations.  Other special pastimes included traveling in the U.S. and abroad and kayaking.  He was a member of the Yakkity Yakers in the Myrtle Beach area and enjoyed organizing their annual canoe paddles and luaus from the Cherry Grove boat ramp to Waities Island.

Bobby loved food and cooking.  He received a culinary certificate from Greenville Tech and was frequently happy to share delicious goodies with friends, family and co-workers.  While living in Little River, he founded an online retired Greenville County police officers’ website called Old Po Pos.  He always looked forward to trips to Greenville to enjoy breakfasts with his fellow ‘Old Po Pos’.  He was proud to be a member of Little River United Methodist Church.  Even during the last few months of his life, he faithfully enjoyed watching the Sunday morning online services.

Bobby leaves behind his wife Kathy; daughter Mary “Allison” Giambrone-Wilson (Mike); nephews Todd and Richie Giambrone; sons and daughters-in-law Dale and Michelle Arterburn and Mark and Cris Arterburn. He was the proud grandfather of four, Camden, Morgan, Sean and Luke Arterburn.

A small family only memorial service was held for him at Little River INC on Sept. 23 with the Rev. Russell Freeman and the Rev. Joanne Lockard-Hawkins officiating.

His widow Kathy plans to keep his Facebook account active for comments and posts. Celebration of life services are being planned for both this area  and the Greenville area in 2021 where friends, neighbors and family may come together to share remembrances of Bobby.
