Mr. John Turner “J.T.” West Sr., 83, of Loris passed away on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020 at his home following an illness. He was born on Nov. 18, 1936, in Loris, to the late Lewis Thomas West and the late Gracie Estelle Goff West. He worked in sales at Hardee Manufacturing until his retirement and was a longtime active member of Mt. Leon Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-one years, Versie Carter West of the home; three sons, John West Jr. and wife Tammy of Longs. Trevor West and Joshua West both of Loris; son-in-law, Russell Cox of Longs; three grandchildren, Patrick Cox and wife Paula of Nakina, N.C., Lindsey Cox Antley and husband Bryan and Megan West and fiancé Nick Palombi, all of Longs; four great-grandchildren, Kix Ward, Ashlynn Ward, Lily Cox and Gunner Antley; and one great-great-granddaughter, Jude Ivey Ward.
Mr. West was predeceased by his daughter, Tammie Rene West Cox, and three sisters, Vernise West Vaught, Myrtle West Page and Geneva King Doyle.
Funeral services were held at 3 on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Mt. Leon Baptist Church with Pastor Andy Bell and the Rev. Lebron Crisp officiating. The family received friends from 1:30 P.M. until the time of service on Tuesday at Mt. Leon Baptist Church. Committal services followed at Mt. Leon Cemetery.
