The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Charleston District and city leaders met last week at city hall to discuss upcoming beach renourishment.
Mayor Marilyn Hatley, Councilman Hank Thomas and City Manager Mike Mahaney met with Lt. Col. Robert Nahabedian, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Lt. Col. Andrew Johannes, Commander of the Charleston District. Lt. Col. Robert Nahabedian will become Commander of the Charleston District in July 2023.
The federal government plans to spend more than $13 million to conduct the periodic nourishment of the City of North Myrtle Beach Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) project. The project will involve widening the beach, building new dunes, planting of dune vegetation and installation of sand fencing.
The start date for the renourishment is uncertain and won’t be known until the Army Corps of Engineers can finalize the project’s engineering and award construction to a contractor.
