Robert Scott Covington Jr. of Little River passed peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at McLeod Seacoast Hospital in Little River.
Scott was born on Aug. 1, 1934, in Evergreen, N.C., the son of Robert Scott Covington Sr. and Grace Burns Covington (Jolley).
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 43 years, Carolyn Webb Covington. Scott leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Joy Covington O’Nale (Bryan) and Sherrie Hauer (Joe); grandchildren, Ashley O’Nale and Travis Hauer (Alex); his brother, Harold G. Covington (Julia); sisters, Sylvia Scott (Alan), Faye Myers (Larry) and Carol Ellington (David); and sister-in-law, Helen Merritt (Kermit). He was also blessed with a host of nieces, nephews and beloved cousins.
Scott retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant. He obtained an Associate of Arts Degree and an Associate of Applied Science Degree from Spokane Community College. He was also a licensed real estate broker and contractor.
Scott was a true renaissance man, a world traveler and an avid sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing and golf. He was a talented artist. He was a pilot of planes, a sailor of boats and a captain of yachts and a connoisseur of fine wine, spirits and cigars. Scott embraced life, new experiences and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Scott was a generous benefactor to Wake Forest University and other institutions of higher education, to honor the memory of his cherished wife Carolyn. In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable donation in his honor to a charity near to your heart.
We, the family, would like to thank everyone for their prayers and condolences. We would also like to thank the staff, nurses, Dr. Hein and Dr. “V” at McLeod Seacoast Hospital in Little River for their excellent care and compassion during his stay.
