Amanda Causey was offered the position of clerk for the city of Loris after the Loris City Council met in executive session on Monday, July 20.
Causey said, “It is an honor to work alongside the talented employees at the city of Loris.” She stated it is more than just a job, more than just a city; it is her home and hometown. She said there is much work to accomplish and as a team it will be done.
Mayor Todd Harrelson said, “I think the city of Loris is blessed to have Amanda as the new city clerk”. He continued, “I feel she is definitely the best person for the job.” He stated that Causey is trustworthy and she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table. “She has proven herself the entire time she has worked here;” said Harrelson, “I am really pleased to have her in the position; God is good.”
Causey has attended training classes in February 2020 to educate her in the many duties she has acquired in the position of acting city clerk. Her professionalism during the meetings and multitasking duties as well as assisting in training the two new employees, Missy Gore and Delicia Livingston, is very obvious, she is constantly busy, but takes time to answer questions when Loris residents come in to discuss their water bill or when questions arise to help them understand the steps to take to get a building permit and much more.
With the many changes in personnel at the city office Causey says nothing runs smoothly unless there is teamwork and everyone works together for a common goal, to make the city hall a better place for what the mayor says is transparency. Causey takes time to answer any questions customers pose to her; if she is unable to answer she will find the right person or department for them to discuss the issues.
Causey said, “My grandfather retired from the city of Loris and I spent many after school hours on Friday afternoons at the Public Works Shop with Mr. Von, Mr. Howard, Mr. Garlee and with Mr. Larry from the Loris Fire Department.” She continued, “These are memories I am fond of and memories I hold dear to my heart.” She said that “Mr. Larry” would give her Tootsie Rolls every time she saw him and that is a special memory she has of her childhood days.
This past weekend Causey and her family were on a fishing trip out of town. She had to return to Loris early to put together the council packets and notify the public and media of the Monday, July 20, special council meeting. She is dedicated and professional. She did say, “God comes first, then my family and then my job, which is how I’ve been brought up to respect all three.”
