The Loris City Council met on Wednesday, May 22, at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Hall for the express purpose to discuss the audit from the year 2015-16. National Police week began on Sunday, May 12, recognizing the police officers across the nation for their service and bowing their heads for those who lost their lives in the line of duty.  In Loris the city administration and Loris Police Department gathered at the flags between Railroad Avenue and Meeting Street to lower the flags to half-staff.  Kenya Wright, Damon Kempski, Todd Harrelson, Chief Gary Buley and Officer Allen Oxendine bowed their heads in prayer before lowering the city and state flags and then the American flag. Artfields and Artfields Jr. Awards ceremony was held May 4 in Lake City. In the Jr. division, they received 800 pieces of Art and only chose 200 to be in the competition. AAST–the Academy of Arts, Science, and Technology in Myrtle Beach had 3 winners in the 9th-12th grade. The Green Sea Floyds High School Varsity baseball team fell short of another state championship Tuesday night when they lost to the McBee High School Panthers by a sscore of 7-3 in the South Carolina Class A Baseball State Champion Series.  The team can be very proud of the Lower State Championship they won with all of their hard work.  Pictured are team members and coaches taken after winning the Lowr State Champion title.

The city of Loris welcomes a new employee, Amanda Hawley-Causey, who has been helping process water payments and answer questions when customers visit the office or call on the phone.  She began working for the city on May 8.

What began as a place for family and horses became more as Christa and Richard Reynolds found the perfect spot in the country outside of Loris.  They purchased 40 acres of farm property with a nice farm-style home on Liberty Church Road so they would be able to raise their four children and have the ability to care for and ride their horses every day of the week. The Loris recreation department is holding Baseball Opening Day on Thursday, April 4. The opening ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. and games begin at 6 p.m. On Monday, April 1, Coastal Carolina University mascot Chauncey visited the park during practice for the children to have their pictures made with this special guest. Tom Cocke, director of the recreation center, said, “We have had to change the opening day a couple of times due to rain, we had planned to have the Myrtle Beach Pelicans mascot Splash visit.” Sadly, Splash is not available for Thursday’s game day, but he and Chauncey …

Todd Harrelson is running for the mayoral seat in the Special Election to be held in May. When Mayor Henry L. Nichols passed away in February the seat of mayor for the city of Loris was considered vacated. Mayor Pro-tem Todd Harrelson took over the duties as mayor of Loris.
