Loris High School Class of 2020 graduates at Heniford Field

By Annie Rigby Both Ashton and Alexandra are filled with emotions to end one instrumental chapter in their lives and are excited for their new beginnings to attend college in the fall. Congratulations to the Loris High School Class of 2020. Closing all South Carolina public schools began on March 15 with an undetermined date to return to a normal schedule. Loris Elementary School staff misses their students

By Annie Rigby Loris Elementary School teachers and staff have not seen their students in person since Friday, March 13. With Gov. Henry McMaster’s executive order to close all South Carolina schools beginning on Monday, March 16, teachers have missed interacting with their students. Paiton Harrelson said that the ride through town was a joint effort beginning with the first grade teachers and expanding to all grades from child development to fifth grade staff participating in the ride. By Annie Rigby Seniors at Loris High School found sympathetic ears for their dreams to have a traditional graduation with their class of 2020 grads. Board members received calls from parents and students pleading with them to be the voice of their desire to avoid a virtual graduation. Loris High School students honored with Cruise on Main Street

LHS Students were honored with a Cruise on Main on Friday, May 15, from 8-11 p.m. with DJ Kyle Gore kicking up the music streamed into the speakers through town. Kaitlyn Courtney, Loris Bog-Off Festival Teen, the Loris Chamber of Commerce and the City of Loris coordinated the cruise giving the 2020 graduating seniors a night to remember since they missed their prom, sports, senior night and the events seniors hold dear to their hearts as they finish their 13th year of studies at the Loris schools.

By Annie Rigby Ethan Lewis is set to graduate with the Loris High School Class of 2020 on Tuesday, June 2, and will have the summer to prepare to fulfill his dreams. Lt. Col. Jim McLean, J.R.O.T.C. Senior Army Instructor, recognized the accomplishments of Cadet First Lieutenant Ethan A. Lewis. Historical Society receives $20,000 for renovations

By Annie Rigby Paul Prince, Horry County Councilman for District 9, presented a $20,000 check to the Loris Historical Society on Tuesday, May 5, at 2 p.m. Prince said for him to make the large donation to the historical society all members of the Horry County Council must approve the funds given to the historical society; the council unanimously approved the designated funds. James Edwards, president of the Loris Historical Society, graciously accepted the check and stated that the funds will be designated to the completion of phase two of the building renovations. Governor lifts order for hair salons, and other close contact businesses

By Annie Rigby On Monday, May 11, Gov. Henry McMaster lifted restrictions on close contact services and recreational and athletic activities to open on Monday, May 18. Barber shops, hair salons, nail salons, spas, tattoo services, tanning, massage, gyms, fitness and exercise centers, commercial gyms and public or commercial pools as well as many other businesses will reopen. Commercial gyms will include group exercise facilities such as yoga studios, barre classes and others. “With our increased capacity for testing the people of our state, it is time to responsibly and gradually get these small businesses back up and running,” said …

Restaurants now open for dining

By Annie Rigby Loris restaurants re ceived the news they had hoped would come. Gov. Henry McMaster announced and outlined the Phase Two of his plan to reopen restaurants for indoor dining. On Monday, May 11, at 12:01 a.m. the executive order was lifted allowing indoor dining. The mom and pop restaurants, Backyard Barbeque, Santino’s and Back Street Café, assured patrons they are following the suggested guidelines and are ready for guests to visit their establishments to indoor dining. By Annie Rigby The parade of the Lion Pride is sponsoring the Loris Elementary School Lion Pride as the teachers and staff caravan through Loris and keeping acceptable social distancing. There is no way the caravan can drive past each home or drive every street of the city.
