Mrs. Sarah Louise Powell Townsend Scott, 97, of Fair Bluff, N.C. passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the home of her daughter, Sarah Anne Townsend in Columbia, S.C., after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Scott was born in Chadbourn, N.C. on May 15, 1921, to the late Ruth Wooten Powell and the late Robert Quitman Powell.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Samuel D. Gavin Chase Powell, 28, of Longs, SC went home to rest in the arms of his Heavenly Father on April 6th, 2019. Gavin, the son of Cathy L. Snead and Ben Powell, III, was born on August 2, 1990. While on this earth, he brought an indescribable joy to everyone who knew him, through his gentleness, his loving and forgiving nature, and especially through his immense musical talents. John W. Player, Sr., 88, formerly of North Myrtle Beach, SC, died April 5, 2019 at Westminster Towers, Rock Hill, SC. Mr. Player was a member of Living Water Baptist Church and Grand Strand Masonic Lodge #392 in North Myrtle Beach. Survivors include two sons, Michael V. Player and John W. Player, Jr.; daughter, Barbara Ann Deal; sister, Wilma Hendricks; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  He is predeceased by his wife, Eleanor S. Tony Farrell Craven, 72, died April 13, 2019 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC. Born on August 20, 1946 in Pinehurst, NC, he was the son of the late Farrell Lester and Montie “Glenn” Lewis Craven. He was an avid fisherman. By Sharon Robinson Three Riverside Elementary School members of the Driftwood Keep America Beautiful (KAB) Kids Junior Garden Club received awards from the Garden Club of South Carolina (GSCS) at the 2019 State Youth Symposium held on April 6 at the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia.  Yvette Otero, a fifth grader, won first place for her poster of Smokey Bear “Only You Can Prevent Wildfires”. Eva Campman, a fourth grader, won honorable mention in the same category.  In the Woodsy Owl “Lend a Hand, Care for the Land” poster competition, Kh’ Mya Watts, a fourth grader, won second Place.
