NMB Chiefs baseball team begins region play this week

The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs varsity baseball team begins region play this week with two games. The Chiefs travelled to Marlboro County on Tuesday for their region opener and then have their first home game scheduled for this Friday at 6:30 p.m. at home against Wilson High School. The Chiefs had a week of practice last week following three games played at the Shipyard Tournament in Charleston Feb. 28 and 29. The Chiefs opened play against Wando High School. Lady Chiefs end their season with playoff run

The North Myrtle Beach High School Lady Chiefs third round lower state playoff game with North Augusta last Monday may have ended their season, as the Lady Yellow Jackets advanced by a 75-60 score, but it certainly won’t diminish the accomplishments and memories of the 2019-2020 season. The Lady Chiefs opened their season with a 38-35 loss to Goose Creek in the FTC Lady Gamecock Tip Off Classic. NMB Chiefs lose by 58-47 to rival Myrtle Beach in the third round of 6AAAA playoffs

The buzzer sounded last Tuesday night at the Myrtle Beach High School gym and a disappointed North Myrtle Beach Chiefs team slowly collected themselves and formed a line to go through the usual handshakes and “good game” with the Seahawks.  Coach Ryan Walker had paced and watched the scoreboard the last minutes of the game trying to will free throws to go in and looking at Chiefs shots bounce off the rim. High school soccer programs look forward to great seasons

The North Myrtle Beach High School varsity soccer programs have already begun play with the Nash Tournament but now both coaches turn to local teams. The girls and boys had scheduled games against Socastee on Tuesday. The girls team played at home and the boys travelled to Socastee for 7:30 p.m. matches. Boys coach Aaron Wheeler spoke about the changes to his program. “There has been a massive overhaul of the program since I took over last June and the boys worked incredibly hard to win the Nash tournament for the first time since 2009. Chiefs wrestlers go to state individual championships

Following the 6AAAA individual wrestling tournament at Bluffton, eight Chiefs qualified for the state championships last weekend in Anderson. First place finishers Blake Jenkins(145), Chase Simmons(182) and Malachi Black(285), second place finishers Naszeir Bellamy(126) and Jackie Gore(152),  third place finishers Jackson Smith(106) and Andre Giddens(160) and fourth place finisher Rashad Dawud(170) all wrestled last Friday and Saturday and five eventually placed after two days of wrestling. Each wrestler faced competitors from teams in the upper state, with number one finishers wrestling number four finishers and twos meeting threes. Winners advanced to wrestle other winners. NMB Chiefs season ends with loss to Seahawks

Lady Chiefs playoff run ends with loss at North Augusta

The North Myrtle Beach High School Lady Chiefs third round game with North Augusta ended their season as the Lady Yellow Jackets advanced by a 75-60 score. The Lady Chiefs had a  long day of travel and then had to face a team that has won three straight state championships and was 43-0 at home. Faced with those obstacles North Myrtle Beach got off to a slow start in the first quarter, trailing 20-10 after eight minutes. Lady Chiefs beat South Aiken, Bluffton to move to third round of state high school playoffs

The North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs opened the South Carolina High School League playoffs with an impressive 70-26 victory over visiting South Aiken last Tuesday at North Myrtle Beach. Thursday night the Lady Chiefs continued their impressive showing with a 49-33 win over #1 seed Bluffton and a third-round game on Monday. Tuesday’s win over South Aiken began with the Lady Chiefs taking the opening tip and within seconds Jordan Berger hit a jump shot from the left side and it was 2-0. Wrestling team sends eight wrestlers to individual championships

The North Myrtle Beach High School wrestling team competed in the Lower State Individual Championship in Bluffton last Friday and Saturday and sent eight wrestlers to the state championships next weekend in Anderson. The individual championship is just that, wrestlers in each weight class that wrestle team members from other 4A schools, all of whom are seeded according to their regular season records. In order to qualify for the state championship, wrestlers must win every match in order to finish number one, or if they lose, must win enough to finish second through fourth and qualify. NMB Chiefs open 6AAAA playoffs with 73-51 win over Hilton Head then beat North Augusta 60-55

The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs boys basketball team made the long trip to Hilton Head last Wednesday and dominated the Seahawks with a 73-51 victory in the first round of the SC High School League playoffs. The Chiefs continued their playoffs with a 60-55 win over North Augusta last Saturday and moved to round three of the state 6AAAA playoffs. The Chiefs opened the scoring at Hilton Head with a lay-up by Chad Beasley, a free throw from Javi Marlowe and a basket down low for a 5-2 lead.
