Boys, girls cross country teams finish in All-County meet

The North Myrtle Beach High School boys and girls varsity cross country teams finished in fourth place at last week’s county championship at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex. The Chiefs teams ran against seven other teams in the girls competition and nine teams in the boys race. All races were 5K distances. The teams were made up of seven runners per team and race time for each runner was averaged to get team results. Girls volleyball team finishes region play as 10-0 champions

The North Myrtle Beach High School girls varsity volleyball team had another successful week, beating Wilson and Darlington to finish the 6AAAA region with a 10-0 record and an overall record of 29-10. The Lady Chiefs beat the Wilson Tigers on Tuesday 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-9) at North Myrtle Beach in their final regular season home match. Last Thursday the Chiefs finished up the regular season by travelling to Darlington and again won by a 3-0 score (25-8, 25-8, 25-11). NMB girls golf team wins region 6AAAA championship

The North Myrtle Beach High School girls golf team won the 6AAAA region golf championship last week with a one stroke victory over Myrtle Beach. The Chiefs scored 388 to nudge out Myrtle Beach with a 389. Hartsville was third with 429 and Darlington took fourth with 495. The Lady Chiefs were led by sophomore Cara Hilburn with a round of 82. Seventh grade sister Sydney Hilburn shot a 99, junior Savannah Jordan shot 100 and Kalynn Basehoar had a 107. Swimmers compete in six team meet

The North Myrtle Beach High School boys and girls swim teams joined five other teams competing last Friday at the NMB Aquatic and Fitness Center. The Chiefs squads joined teams from Carolina Forest, St. James, Socastee, Waccamaw and Conway in many individual and relay events. The NMB girls finished second and the boys hung on to finish in third place. NMB Lady Chiefs varsity volleyball team remains undefeated in conference

The Lady Chiefs volleyball team continued their winning ways in 6AAAA conference play with a 3-0 win over Darlington last Thursday at the Chiefs gym. The Chiefs continued their excellent play last Saturday with a second place finish in the Wildcat Invitational Tournament in Lexington. The Lady Chiefs win over Darlington was highlighted by, as coach Alex Sing put it, “a combination of great serving and near flawless attacking” as they overwhelmed the visiting team. Varsity volleyball returns to net with two wins

The North Myrtle Beach High School varsity volleyball team returned to action last week after Hurricane Dorian visited the area. The Lady Chiefs began the week with a win over Carolina Forest at their home gym.  North Myrtle Beach won 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-21). Coach Alex Sing was glad to get the win. “Carolina Forest is young, but they have some talented kids. We were glad to get the win at their place,” Sing said. Girls varsity golf team falls to Myrtle Beach, Loris

The North Myrtle Beach girls varsity golf team got back into action following Hurricane Dorian with losses to Myrtle Beach and Loris. The Lady Chiefs traveled to the Dunes Club for their match with Myrtle Beach last Tuesday and were defeated  195 -209. Cara Hilburn was low scorer for the Lady Chiefs with a round of 46. Freshman Faith Goff shot a 53, Savannah Jordan had a 54 and seventh grader Kalynn Basehoar shot 57. First Strides offers women beginner’s guide to walking, running

When Jane Serues moved to the North Myrtle Beach area she brought with her a program to help women start walking or running toward fitness and less stress. Serues started First Strides in Allentown, Pa. “I began First Strides in 1997 and when I came here I wanted to continue it for women in this area,” Serues said. Serues describes First Strides as a beginner’s workshop for women that enables them to learn about walking and running over a twelve-week period of time, culminating in participation in the “Dashing Through the Glow Walk/Run 5K on November 22.  “We have weekly …
