South Carolina schools closed until further notice

Loris Elementary School posted the information on the sign in front of the school to let everyone know that all South Carolina schools are closed until further notice. On Tuesday South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and Superintendant of Education Molly Spearman announced that the closure of all South Carolina schools will be extended until at least April 30.

Loris IGA

The Loris IGA parking lot was almost empty on Tuesday evening. Lots of stores and businesses in Loris are serving a lot less customers and many are shortening their hours because of the fears of the coronavirus which has emptied many of the shelves of certain items.

Updated stop lights installed

This past week a member of the South Carolina Highway Patrol directed traffic at the intersection of Main Street and Broad Street in Loris while the traffic lights were being changed out. Employees of ALS of North Carolina, Inc. based out of Fayetteville was subcontracted by the South Carolina Department of Transportation to change out the old stop lights and install new modern stop lights that improve the safety of the turn lanes and to help traffic move through the intersection more efficiently.

Club hosts meeting today

By Sherry Fowler Quick Loris Garden Club is hosting the Coastal District Spring Luncheon meeting this Thursday, March 12, from 10a.m. to 2 p.m. at the McLeod Loris Fitness Center. Approximately 150 gardeners from Horry, Georgetown, Dillon, Florence, Marion and Williamsburg Counties will be attending.  Coastal District Director, David Stoudenmire, of Loris will be facilitating throughout the day.  Patricia Binder, president of The Garden Club of South Carolina, will be speaking around 10 a.m.  Dr. Muriel O’Tuel, a local North Myrtle Beach author and former educator, will be the keynote speaker beginning at 1:15 p.m.
