Current Transitions students conduct successful safety fair

After several months gathering information and preparing their poster boards, the students at Current Transitions conducted a Safety Fair to communicate what they had learned to parents, staff and members of the community. The students selected very diverse topics including fire safety, internet safety, video game safety, food safety, sports injuries and antidepressant-meds.com safety. A farewell luncheon for Kenya Wright

A farewell luncheon was prepared for Kenya Wright’s last day at city hall. Coworkers spent their lunchtime sharing fun memories spent working together as a team. Wright tendered her resignation effective Friday, Jan. 17. The Horry County Solid Waste Authority recently recognized Little River area resident Anthony Rosaves as the “Caught Green Handed” recipient for the month of December. “The ‘Caught Green Handed’ recognition is presented monthly to a Horry County resident caught in the act of recycling” stated Esther Murphy, Director of Recycling and Corporate Affairs for the Solid Waste Authority. “It’s the Solid Waste Authority’s way of recognizing and thanking citizens who have made the effort to recycle. Annual card party scheduled

Peggy Merck and Christine Kleczkowski gathered some of the door prizes donated for the annual Mega Card Party/Luncheon at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. “We have packages for wine lovers, beach lovers, cooks, golfers and just about every category of interest,” Merck, chair of the event, says. The card party takes place in the banquet hall at 1100 8th Ave. N. in North Myrtle Beach from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 3. Cost is $16 per person, which includes lunch. Loris Councilman Lewis Hardee Nominated

Photo by Annie Rigby On Monday, Jan. 6, Loris Councilman Lewis Hardee was nominated and council voted him to hold the position of mayor pro tem until 2022. Hardee will work closely with the mayor, Todd Harrelson, to keep current on what is happening at city hall. Hardee will step into the position at meetings and will be acting mayor in other areas when or if Harrelson is not available. Council and the mayor welcomed Hardee to the position. Carroll D. Thomas Roy Byington

Thomas Roy Byington, 81, of Longs passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Born on Aug. 19, 1938, in Waukesha, WI, he was the son of the late Russell T. and Elmira Kathryn Saska Byington. Mr. Byington is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janet C. Westberg Byington; two daughters, Terry Byington Urban and Debbie Byington Transou; four granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; and one great-grandson. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, in Lee Funeral Home Chapel.  The family will receive friends following the service. …

Ronald W. Oliver, 86, of Little River, beloved husband for 56 years of Jean Warner Oliver, died on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020, at Brunswick Health and Rehab Center. Born in Hartford, Conn. on May 24, 1933, he was a son of the late William and Ethel Oliver. He had been a resident of Little River for over 20 years.
