During the December 16 City Council meeting, Employee of the Month Awards were presented to Public Grounds Maintenance Worker Stewart Stevenson (September), Senior Planner/Urban Designer Suzanne Pritchard (October) and Seasonal Beach Cleaner Contrez Dewitt and Motor Equipment Operator Kareem Hemingway (November). Stewart Stevenson received his award for volunteering to be the point of contact for the Right of Way Crew when its leader had to be out of work for an extended period of time. City Council recognizes Smith for her service as she retires

The North Myrtle Beach City Council held a Monday, December 16, meeting in City Council chambers at City Hall. City Council adopted a resolution approving a settlement agreement in principle between the City of Myrtle Beach and Horry County regarding hospitality fees and authorized the city manager to sign the document(s) on behalf of the city. City Council entered into an executive session to discuss the annual performance evaluation of the city attorney. Council took no action. Irene Gerrald Harrelson, 88, of Green Sea passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019. Mrs. Harrelson was born on Dec. 23, 1930, in Mullins to the late Samuel Gurley Gerrald and the late Lennie Joanna Grainger Gerrald. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Green Sea Floyds Schools for over thirty years. Mrs. Harrelson was a longtime faithful member of Green Sea Baptist Church. Everette Vereen, 52, of Little River passed away last week. A viewing was held on Sunday, December 8, 2019, at Latimers Funeral Home in Conway. Funeral services were held on Monday, December 9, at 1 p.m. at Popular AME Church in Wampee. Burial followed in the Popular Cemetery. The family gathered at 4051 Lincoln Heights Road in Little River. Latimers Funeral Home of Conway served the family.

Douglas ‘Michael’ Duncan, 68, of Tabor City, N.C., passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, at his home. Mr. Duncan was born on Oct. 5, 1951, in Loris. He was a brakeman for CSX Railroad in Florence and worked as a sales representative for Home Security Life Insurance Company in Conway for many years. Born on May 30, 1931, she was the daughter of the late James Ernest and Mary Croomie (McColl) Jordan.  Carolyn was predeceased by her husband and true love, George B. Adams, and two sisters, Betty J.
