Bettie Gail Stevens Altman of Loris passed to her heavenly home on  Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019. Bettie Stevens Altman or “Nonie” as she liked to be called by her grandchildren, had many favorite pastimes.  Fishing was her favorite.  Shopping in Walmart for long periods of time, especially during end of year sales, was a close second.  She enjoyed special holidays where her grandchildren and great-children were involved.  Mrs. Altman was born in Loris, a daughter of the late Ernest Odell and Jackie Fowler Stevens.  She was predeceased by her son, Kevin Shelley; three brothers, Shelton, Jimmy and Belton Stevens; and …

McLeod Foundation raises over $50,000 for cancer patients

The McLeod Health Foundation benefiting McLeod Loris Seacoast raised over $50,000 at the McLeod Health Cancer Benefit Golf Classic presented by MagMutual. This two day golf event was held on Friday, Nov. 8, and Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Dye Club at Barefoot Resort & Golf in North Myrtle Beach. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the cancer patients at McLeod Seacoast through the HOPE Fund (Helping Oncology Patients Everyday). The HOPE Fund was established for cancer patient support services and to provide the oncology staff with the improved access for the immediate assistance for their patients. The HOPE Fund …

By Meg Williams: A long time resident of North Myrtle Beach, Amanda Todd is very familiar with yelling “Go Chiefs.” Mrs. Todd is in her ninth year of teaching and currentky teaches first grade at Waterway Elementary. Amanda earned her bachelors degree in Early Education and her masters in Education in Literacy at Coastal Carolina University. NMB Lions to recognize Diabetes Awareness Month

November is recognized as Diabetes Awareness Month.  Lions International members have as a primary mission the eradication of preventable blindness. Diabetes retinopathy is the leading cause of vision loss in adults aged 20-74 years and has been ranked as the fifth most prevalent cause of preventable blindness and severe vision loss.  In response to this serious disease the North Myrtle Beach Lions conducted an educational outreach program at Boulineau’s on Friday, Nov. 15, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Lions distributed helpful information including a pamphlet , “It’s Not Too Late To Prevent Diabetes.” According to North Myrtle Beach Lions …

Brown honored with Humanitarian Award

Angela Gause Brown is a native of Horry County and resides in Little River. She is a 1992 graduate of North Myrtle Beach High School. Angela continued her education at Charleston Southern University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice. She is a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Angela has been employed with the Horry County Sheriff’s Department for the last 21 years and is the Director of Victim’s Services at J.
