Alvah “Al” Dalton Fuqua Jr., 79, of Sunset Beach, N.C., passed away on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center. Born on May 4, 1940 in Raleigh, N.C., he was the son of the late Alvah Dalton Fuqua Sr. and Novvie Smith Fuqua. Mr. Fuqua is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Dianne Lambert Fuqua; two sons, Dean and Scott Fuqua; daughter, Catherine Fuqua; and three grandchildren, Julia, Carolina and Miguel. Jane L. Foy, 92, of North Myrtle Beach, died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 at Grand Strand Rehab & Nursing Center. Born on April 9, 1927, in Apollo, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles K. and Elsie B. Orr Grimm. Mrs. Foy is survived by her children, William B. “Billy” Foy and Patricia A. Kenneth “Kenny” Leo Dixon, 73, of Little River passed away on Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach.. Margaret Elizabeth Suggs Prince of Loris passed away in her home on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at the age of 93. A native of Loris, Mrs. Prince was born on December 24, 1925. The daughter of Grover C. and Irene M. Suggs, she graduated from Loris High School as co-valedictorian of her class. Always a trendsetter, she attended Columbia College where she was active in many clubs and organizations. Rescue squad fish fry, barbecue Saturday

The North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad is pleased to announce the 61st Annual Fish Fry & Barbecue will be held at the Ocean Drive Elementary School on Saturday, Oct. 26. Sixty years ago, the rescue squad hosted its first fish fry and barbecue to generate the much-needed financial resources necessary to support an ambulance, supplies and staff for this unique lifesaving service that never charged a dime to the public for any services. Mayor appoints committee to develop plan

Prior to the Monday, Oct. 21, North Myrtle Beach City Council meeting, Council members met in a 6:45 p.m. executive session to discuss possible candidates to fill a vacancy for an unexpired term on the Planning Commission. Council took no action. During the 7 p.m. meeting, City Council recognized Team Shark 843 for its recent team and individual performances at the wakeboard nationals. Former North Myrtle Beach Planning Commission Member, Major Katherine Jenerette, and her husband, Major Van Jenerette, U.S. Army (Ret.), participated in the 35th Annual Army Ten-Miler held at the Nation’s Capitol this past weekend. Over 35,000 runners from around the world competed in the event that looped along the Potomac River and around many of the most historical attractions in Washington, D.C.
