Humane society sets upcoming events

The following events are scheduled for the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach. They are: August 3: Adoption event at Petco in North Myrtle Beach from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. August 7: Dine to Donate at Carolina Ale House from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. August 17 and 18: Furricane Mega Adoption Event at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. August 26-30: Operation Brown Bag – Instead of eating out for lunch, “brown bag it!” $10 per day x 5 workdays = a $50 donation to help the homeless pets! Kenedi Board, Young Miss Teen North Myrtle Beach

Kenedi Board, Young Miss Teen North Myrtle Beach, recently donated a collection of small toys, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other dental care supplies to Miles for Smiles, the school dental program based in Horry County.  Miles for Smiles began operation in 2004 by Little River Medical Center and now provides dental services to 26 schools in Horry County.  Assisting Ms. Board was Ashby Grace Reeves, Little Miss Horry County, and Easlyn Hall, Wee Miss North Myrtle Beach.

Lion Watson receives award

By Arleen Lopano Lion Bill Watson was presented the Lion Key award as he has successfully opened the door of Lionism to at least two individuals. Lion Verne Cappell presented him with the pin. Lions Club International recognized Lion Watson for this award for  his demonstrating active commitment to the growth and strength of the association.   Lion Watson was one of the original charter members  of the Little River Lions Club.

Local school supply lists now available

Parents from local schools have a new tool in their back-to-school bag of tricks this year as all of their school’s supply lists are now posted on TeacherLists.com.  With just one or two clicks, parents can find their child’s exact supply list and then click right over to pre-filled shopping carts on Target, Walmart, Office Depot, Amazon or Staples to purchase their list and have it shipped right to their home. Luau fundraising event to benefit Julie’s Kids.

On Saturday, Aug. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Harbourgate Marina in North Myrtle Beach, Freedom Boat Club is doing a BBQ with all the trimmings including dessert, soda and water.  Entertainment will include local band, Atomic Potion, and The Aloha Experience Hula Dancers and Fire Breathers. Tickets are $20 and all the proceeds will go directly to Julie’s Kids.  The boat club is paying for everything so all the money raised will go directly to Julie’s Kids to help them with back to school items.  They also have a Luau Wish Tree with angels that the kids made …

SWA recognizes inaugural recipients

In March 2019, the Horry County Solid Waste Authority announced the creation of a new recognition program. The Spotlight on Environmental Awareness (SEA) program will recognize agencies/businesses/companies that practice reducing, reusing and recycling in their daily operations, promote the conservation of natural resources and/or utilizes sustainable business practices. Two to three businesses will be recognized quarterly on the SWA website and social media platforms and will include a brief summary of the recipient’s environmental efforts and a link to their specific website. Teen volunteer program is in full swing

McLeod Loris Seacoast has benefited with the extra help of teen volunteers this summer. These students have been given the opportunity to interact with patients and healthcare professionals to learn firsthand how the McLeod Health system operates. Some of the volunteer duties include performing clerical support, helping new patients get oriented at the information desk, making deliveries and assisting with special events. Many of these students have an interest in health-related careers. Too Much Sylvia performs tonight in free concert

The public is invited to enjoy a free concert featuring Too Much Sylvia on Thursday, July 25 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Horseshoe on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach. Concert-goers can expect an incredible variety of music. Patrons and concert-goers are encouraged to bring their beach chairs. The Job Is Completed

Main Street paving has been completed including painting the lines and arrows. This crew continued painting the turn lane at Main and Broad Street during the early evening thunderstorm that hit Loris on Tuesday, July 23. When asked these dedicated workers if they stop when there is lightning, the workers said they work rain or shine to complete their work.

NMB kicks off new mobile recreational program

The North Myrtle Beach Parks & Recreation Department is excited to bring to you, Park N’ Play! A recreation center on wheels that offers a variety of organized activities to promote outdoor play at local parks. This mobile recreation program will establish new locations to play and enhance current play opportunities throughout the community.
