Just a reminder that the regularly scheduled North Myrtle Beach City Council meetings for July, August, September and November in calendar year 2019 are: July 15, August 19, September 16 and November 4. All other months in calendar year 2019 follow the normal two-per-month meeting schedule: Dates are: October 7, October 21, December 2 and December 16. City Council has the option to hold special called council meetings when necessary. Today, June 25, Horry County announced it intends to collect hospitality and accommodations taxes within the city of North Myrtle Beach. Only the city of North Myrtle Beach has the legal right to establish and collect these taxes within its jurisdiction. Horry County has absolutely no authority to do so and is in clear violation of law. In overwhelming fashion, the recent Court order associated with CIVIL ACTION NO. 2019-CP-26-01732 opposed Horry County’s actions in this regard. On Monday shortly after 1 p.m. the awning and side of the building of the former Mystic Motion located on the corner of Main Street and Railroad Avenue collapsed.  The building had been undergoing renovations from damages caused by previous hurricanes when the wall fell.  Main Street was blocked off shortly after the collapse and remained closed until Tuesday afternoon. The North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety and Tidewater Golf Club are sponsoring a golf tournament that will benefit the children of the Department of Public Safety. All proceeds from the event will go toward the North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund was established by the family of Johnny L. Causey Sr. to honor his memory.
