The Lady Chiefs varsity softball team began their season with the Loris Preseason Tournament last Friday through Monday, with the Chiefs facing host team Loris for the championship on Monday night. Unfortunately the Lady Lions won the championship game 12-2.

The Loris High School Lady Lions softball team won their preseason tournament with three straight wins culminating in their 12-2 victory over the North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs Monday night at the Loris High School softball field.

The North Myrtle Beach High School varsity baseball team has begun its preparations for another tough battle in 6AAAA region baseball. After weeks of team practices, the Chiefs scheduled three scrimmages to begin facing live pitching and competition.

Other than baseball and softball reported by The Times, most of the remaining spring sports will be or have been underway this week.

Wyatt Wheeler won his first two matches in the SCHSL Individual wrestling championships at Anderson last Saturday, but couldn’t repeat as state champion. Wheeler lost his bid for a second individual title in overtime to Peyton Schrader from Eastside High School in the final match of the 126 pound class.

The nonprofit organization already operates one ReStore in Myrtle Beach and will be breaking ground on their second location in the local area on Friday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m. Staff from Habitat's ReStore organization board members will be on hand for the ceremony, as well as community members from the North Myrtle Beach area.

The 2nd Annual Grand Strand Men's Conference will once again be held at the local church in the Longs community.

During the nearly two-hour meeting held this Monday, Feb. 20, councilmembers unanimously passed several ordinances, including first reading of a few that go some ways to codifying a uniform policy for activities on the city’s nine-mile stretch of beach, both recreationally and commercially.

The North Myrtle Beach High School varsity basketball teams went into the SCHSL AAAA playoffs last week and both the girls and boys teams were eliminated from the state 4A tournament against much higher seeds.

"A lot of work has been done over there," North Myrtle Beach Mayor Marilyn Hatley said. "I'm excited, I can't wait to see it."
