Cornelia Ussery Blackwell

Cornelia Ussery Blackwell, 96, of Albemarle, N.C., passed away on Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, in CHS-Stanly.

Born on Aug. 25, 1922, in Richmond County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Ussery and Cornia Smith Ussery and was a retired employee of the American Efird Mill Company. She attended Immanuel Baptist Church. Mrs. Blackwell enjoyed her flower garden and enjoyed walking on the beach but her favorite thing to do was spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Blackwell was preceded in death by her husband, J. D. Blackwell; son, John Daniel Blackwell; and grandson, David Soles Jr. She is survived by a son, Billy Blackwell (Linda) of Galivants Ferry; daughters, Judy Batten (Bill) of North Myrtle Beach and Barbara Blackwell of Albemarle; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

The family extends special thanks to Immanuel Baptist Church, Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharrie and the ICU staff at CHS-Stanly.

Mrs. Blackwell’s funeral service will be at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care on Thursday, Jan. 31, from 1 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.

Stanly Funeral Home of Albemarle, N.C., is serving the family.
