Edward R. Murray of Little River passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy. Ed was born on June 30, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, a son of the late John J. and Lilly Murray.
He attended St. Rita High School in Chicago and graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Hotel/Restaurant Management. He was a veteran of the U.S Army. Ed met and married the love of his life, Nancy, in 1960 and together they began their journey which included career opportunities in St. Paul, Minn., Chicago, Ill., West Islip, N.Y., Severna Park, Md., and Akron, Ohio. In 1979, they relocated to Hilton Head Island where they were the proprietors of Ed Murray’s Restaurant. In 1989, they moved to Little River where they owned and operated the Parson’s Table Restaurant until retirement.
Ed had a beautiful Irish tenor voice and enjoyed singing at his restaurants. He was an active Parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach. He was also a 4th Order Knights of Columbus.
Ed is survived by his four children, Ed Jr. (Roz), Mike (Hailey), Meg (Saul) Shavitz and Annemari Hardee; five grandchildren, Meaghan and Hannah Murray, and Samantha, Isabella and John Michael Shavitz; his sister-in-law, Katie (George) Bissett; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jim, Bill and Jay Murray; and his sister, Mary Schmitz.
A funeral mass took place at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with a service following in the Columbarium and Prayer Garden.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Low Country Food Bank or Knights of Columbus.
