The North Myrtle Beach Aquatic and Fitness Center will hold their 5th annual members and guests golf tournament on Saturday, Aug. 17, at Possum Trot Golf Course with proceeds going to Teen Angels.
Teen Angels is a local outreach organization that supports homeless teens and teens in need at North Myrtle Beach High School by providing school books, yearbooks, prom attire, transportation to doctors or dentists and other things to help keep these teens in school.
The format for the tournament is four-person captain’s choice. The cost is $65 per player or $260 per team. The tournament will get underway at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast provided and lunch to follow at Wild Wing Café at Barefoot Landing. Prizes will be awarded to the first place men’s team, women’s team and mixed team.
The tournament is sponsored by Dew’s, Easy 105.9, Possum Trot Golf Course and others that wish to consider being a sponsor for the event. Levels of sponsorship include the Make a Difference sponsor ($500), Visionary Sponsor ($250), Hole Sponsor ($100) or Raffle Sponsor (donation of a raffle item). Make a Difference sponsorship is due by July 26 and hole sponsorships by Aug. 7.
Interested golfers can pick up a sign-up sheet at the center and entry fee checks should be made out to the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic and Fitness Center.
Renee Hembree, who founded Teen Angels over ten years ago, stated how grateful she is to the Aquatic Center and Melinda Chappell. “Melinda and the Aquatic and Fitness Center have been so faithful to us and what we try to do. They have helped raise a lot of money for us that we can use during the year and at Christmas for our high school students. They certainly have made a big difference in how and what we are able to do,” Hembree said.
“Melinda Chappell and I grew up on the same street in Columbia and we went to high school together. It was wonderful that she came to North Myrtle Beach to be the center’s director and she has helped our community so much through support for the Teen Angels. This community does a lot to make our schools better. People know what it’s like to be a teenager and the things they face. Teen Angels tries to meet the needs of these students, whether it’s a year-b ook, or a month’s rent for a student who is about to quit school because they can’t afford to stay in the area. Teen Angels has grown a lot but we still try to keep it simple. Trying to meet the needs of our students is a year-round effort. Sometimes we just apply a band aid, but no matter what, we can’t do anything without funds,” Hembree concluded.
