High school spring sports well underway

Along with variable temperatures and yellow pollen, spring means lots of sports action by a variety of North Myrtle Beach High School varsity teams.

Last Saturday the Chiefs varsity baseball team opened their home season with an 8-3 win over visiting West Brunswick. The Chiefs opened the scoring on a double by Austin Fine for a 1-0 lead after four innings. West Brunswick got three runs in the top of the fifth inning for a brief lead. However, the Chiefs bats exploded for seven runs and kept West Brunswick scoreless the rest of the way.

The Chiefs had a busy week with games on Tuesday at Myrtle Beach and a home game versus Loris on Wednesday, March 13. They also meet Marlboro County Friday at the Chiefs field at 6:30 p.m. Both the Myrtle Beach and Friday’s game are region clashes. The Chiefs also travel to West Brunswick Saturday at 6:30 p.m. for a rematch. Then the Chiefs resume region play when they travel to Wilson High School on March 19.

The varsity lacrosse team got their first win of the season on Monday by beating West Brunswick 7-6 in their first away game of the year. They had dropped three games at home to open their season. The lacrosse team has a Thursday home game against St. James High School at 7:15 p.m., following the JV boys lacrosse game with St, James.

The girls varsity lacrosse squad meets St. James on Thursday, March 14, at 4:45 p.m. at North Myrtle Beach. South Brunswick travels to North Myrtle Beach for a matchup against the girls at 5:30 p.m. on March 19. The boys varsity will play South Brunswick at 7 p.m.

  1. And as usual, varsity soccer doesn’t even merit a mention despite our big 9-0 region win over Darlington on Tuesday night.
