Hospital celebrates volunteer Kapps’ 100th birthday

A surprise 100th birthday celebration was held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, for a McLeod Health Loris volunteer who was born when Woodrow Wilson was president.

Hospital staff, physicians and administration gathered to celebrate Ms. Sallie Kapps with a 100 themed birthday party in the hospital cafeteria.

“Mrs. Sallie is an inspiration to us all,” said Scott Montgomery, McLeod Loris Administrator. “She has a true servant’s heart and wonderful spirit.”

Mrs. Kapps has been a volunteer at McLeod Health Loris since 1984. Even at 100 years old, she continues to volunteer her time one to two days a week in the hospital gift shop.

When asked what she attributed her longevity to Mrs. Kapps replied, “I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by good friends my entire life – that is my secret.”
