James E. Ference, 82, of Longs died on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at home with his loving wife and family members at his side.
Born on May 18, 1937, in Sharon, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph Ference and Agnes Kaelin Ference.
He worked as a metallurgist for the Sharon Steel Company. Once he retired, James loved gardening, landscaping, camping and remodeling. He was always eager to help family and friends with projects. James was a member of the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Described as a “worker bee”, Jim was a devoted volunteer for many functions at the church such as the food pantry, Meals on Wheels, etc.
James is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen “Eileen” Stefanac Ference; sons Christopher L. Ference (Roberta) and Scott E. Ference (Sara); daughters Lori Lynn Ference and Jill Rene Ference Kesic (John); a brother, David J. Ference (Kim); and a sister, Margaret “Peggy” Thomas; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, He was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Radkowski, and brother-in-law, Robert Thomas. Jim’s life revolved around his love for family.
A Funeral mass was held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach on Thursday, July 2, at 11 a.m.
